Big Sur was not only one of the first stops on our honeymoon but also one of those little side quests that ended up being a really great memory. Originally it was just going to be a quick pit stop, the first of many on our California getaway.
We flew out of FT Lauderdale, FL and landed in San Francisco, California. From San Fran we picked up our first rental of the trip, a convertible mustang. First time I ever really got to enjoy a mustang and ride around with the top down and it was amazing. What they say about your hair being everywhere is true. What they say about it being fun, even more true.
Once we got the car, and a quick bite to eat, we headed straight for Big Sur.
It was a really fun ride down the coast and we stopped a million times scared we would miss the sunset on the way to to monumental photo spot. When we finally got to Big Sur we had no clue what to do and we were quickly running out of time. There was a big parking lot and not many cars, a giant canyon trench thing. We couldn’t quite figure out how to get to Big Sur and it was getting really dark really fast. That’s when we found a dark skinny path that lead down towards a creepy tunnel. Once you pass through the creepy tunnel you can see Big Sur.
The view where we were standing was gorgeous, and down below we could see the water swelling up and down. There thankfully weren’t many people with us that night so we had a little privacy and space to take some really amazing photos and footage. As the sun began to set the sky burned in blue and orange hues.
I was able to get a shot of Freddy under some of his favorite stars. We hung out there until it basically got dark. Tired from a long day of flying we continued on our way to our first hotel of the trip in Monterey, California. There we tucked ourselves in for an early morning start. Follow along as we take you whale watching right off the Monterey coast in a future post. (Once it’s up I’ll swing back through here and give you guys a direct link)
Hoping to finish this post later this weekend but no guarantees. Needed to test something on the site so the post is going live prematurely 😛
